Serverless computing (“serverless”) is cloud computing model that started garnering attention with the introduction of AWS Lambda in 2014. One of its advantages is in pricing, since cost tends to be based on the actual amount of resources consumed by an application. In this post I wanted to see what sort of companies are placing the term “serverless” in job postings. For now, this is a single snapshot in time but I hope to track trends and produce an updated post in the future. This post focuses on job postings1 in key technology hubs in the US. According to the first chart2, Washington DC had more serverless job postings than the SF Bay Area:

This second chart contains the companies with the most number of job postings (on 2020-07-11, in the designated metro areas): AWS has by far the most number of unique job posts that mention serverless.
Next, I wanted to see what sort of job titles these job postings covered. They are primarily a mixture of developer/engineer and infrastructure and ops roles:
Finally, I looked at the job descriptions and ran them through WordCloud.com (I removed duplicate descriptions):
Here is a similar chart, but in this instance, I did not remove duplicate job postings. Note that recruiters and companies may post a job opening across multiple locations and across multiple job boards:
